Lagoon Sosnówka is an artificial water reservoir located in the Podgórzyn commune, between the towns of Sosnówka and Marczyce. The Sosnówka Reservoir was built on the site of former fish ponds, and its construction was completed in 2001. It is a source of drinking water for Jelenia Góra and the surrounding area. It is worth knowing that the Sosnówka reservoir also serves as a retention reservoir.

An interesting fact is that the final section of the stream is hidden underground because its course was artificially changed for the purpose of building a reservoir.
The shore of the reservoir Sosnówka Karkonosze from the south is marked by the foot of the Karkonosze Foothills. From the north, the border is the road connecting Sosnówka and Podgórzyn. Part of the reservoir from the west and north is limited by earth embankments and a concrete dam. There is also a very pleasant walking trail leading from the reservoir to Prince Henry's castle. It should take about 30-40 minutes to complete it.

The descendants of the powerful local families, the von Reuss and Schaffgotsch families, felt great affection for each other. However, their families did not accept this love and did not agree to the relationship. Once, when the young people sneaked out for a secret meeting halfway between their castles - Chojnik and Prince Henry's castle, in the Red Valley, the almighty Mountain Spirit met them. Touched by their affection, he asked how he could help them. The bride and groom asked him to make their love never fade away, against the will of the von Reuss and Schaffgotsch families, who wanted to separate them at all costs. He promised them this.
After the families imprisoned the young lady and the young man in their castles, the couple began digging a tunnel to see each other again. At last they met under the roots of the hornbeam, in the Red Valley. They hugged each other as tightly as possible, the tree embraced them with its roots, and the Spirit of the Mountains, as promised, took them from this world and filled the tunnel. Their families soon declined and never regained their former glory. It was a punishment sent by Karkonosze on cruel parents for not being able to appreciate true love and making their children unhappy.

This artificial water reservoir has an area of about 160 ha and holds as much as 14 million m3 of water. It has an oval shape, is 1.2 km long and 1 km wide. Its construction lasted from 1986 to 2001, when it was put into use. The length of the frontal dam measured along its crown is 1465 m, and the highest height is 18.4 m. A road lane was created on the crown of the dam, but it is used only for operational purposes. The Sosnówka Reservoir is easy to find, to put it simply, it is located on the route between Jelenia Góra and Karpacz, by road No. 366, in the town from which it takes its name.
A certain downside of this place is the lack of infrastructure enabling its recreational use. However, work and efforts are still underway to adapt the structure of the reservoir to new needs - in such a way that water sports can be practiced on it and it is made available to tourists.
