Tisza Castle

The Cisy Castle is the ruins of a medieval castle from the 13th century, located in the Czyżynka valley in Cieszów. It is located in the area of the Książ Landscape Park and in the vicinity of the Książ Castle itself, which is less than 5 km away.

It is not entirely known in which year the castle was built. Was it during the reign of Bolko I or during the reign of his son Bernard Stateczny? The stronghold had its heyday during the times of Bolko II, the duke of Świdnica and Jawor, who significantly expanded the castle.

The turbulent times of the Thirty Years' War and the Swedish Deluge brought significant damage to the castle, which, despite attempts to rebuild it by changing owners many times, never regained its splendour. Currently Tisza Castle is a permanent ruin open to the public for tourists.

The ruins merely remind of its defensive function. The remains of the foundation on a quadrilateral plan are fragments of defensive walls, which have been preserved in the best condition, in the northern part of the layout. The entrance to the castle is possible thanks to a wooden bridge placed over a dry moat from the side of the eastern gate.
