Grodno Castle (ger. Kynsburg) is a castle located in the town of Zagórze Śląskie, on the top of the Choina Mountain, located in the Black Mountains. The estate rises above the left bank of the Bystrzyca River, and at its foot there is a dammed Bystrzyckie Lake, which gives the castle a picturesque character.
Grodno Castle boasts a legacy of over 700 years of history, dating back to the beginnings of the times of the Silesian Piasts. The stronghold was systematically expanded over the centuries, taking on its Gothic-Renaissance character. There are many local legends associated with the castle, which can be learned while visiting the interior of the stronghold.
From the walls Grodno Castle there is a beautiful view of the surrounding Bystrzyca valley, with Bystrzyckie Lake, as well as the surrounding Owl Mountains and the Wałbrzyskie Mountains. Mount Choina (450 m above sea level), on which it was located Grodno Castle, due to its unique natural values, it has been protected as the Góra Choina Nature Reserve, with an area of 19 ha and located in the Natura 2000 area. While visiting the castle, it is worth going on a hiking trip around this beautiful area.
Grodno Castle - information for tourists
Grodno Castle it is open to the public from Monday to Sunday during the hours set for specific seasons:
- in the season October-April: from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00, on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays: from 9:00 to 18:00.
- in the season May-September: from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00, on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays: from 9:00 to 19:00.
In addition, from Monday to Friday it is possible to visit the castle with a guide. Unfortunately, for several years, due to its poor technical condition, the castle tower has been excluded from sightseeing.
Entrance ticket prices Grodno Castle it is PLN 26 – a normal ticket and PLN 21 – a reduced ticket. You can also rent an audioguide for PLN 4 per person. On the premises Grodno Castleo it is possible to organize a bonfire for groups for PLN 70. An alternative is to visit the Knight's Inn, located in the courtyard of the castle, where you can eat traditional Polish cuisine. In the center of Zagórze Śląskie you will find car parks, from which there is a road leading to Grodno Castle.
