Bolkow Castle

Bolkow Castle (ger. Bolcoburg) is located on Zamkowe Wzgórze in Bolków in Lower Silesia. The castle is also often referred to as a pearl of medieval defensive architecture in Poland. The stronghold is the so-called highland castle due to its location. It is located on Zamkowe Wzgórze (396 m above sea level), the slope of which breaks off, creating a sharp cliff from the Nysa Szalona side.

Bolkow Castle it was built by Bolesław II Rogatek in the 13th century, and his son, Prince Bolko I, is responsible for its significant expansion. The turbulent history of the lands of Lower Silesia meant that the castle changed owners and principalities to which it belonged many times. For a short period of history, it was even owned by a robber knight Hans von Tschirnhaus.

A significant point in history Bolków Castle was its extension by the famous Italian architect Jakub Parr, who increased the defensive properties of the stronghold. During World War II, the castle passed into the hands of the Reich. It is believed that at that time there was a research center in the castle.
