Karkonosze Museum

The Karkonosze Museum is a complex of museums related to the Karkonosze region. In addition, it is a must-visit place for anyone who wants to know about its history while staying in the region.

The origins of the museum date back to 1880, when the Karkonosze Society RGV was established on the initiative of Theodor Donat, acting for the benefit of the heritage of the Karkonosze Mountains. Since then, the museum's collection has grown steadily. They now have over 60,000. exhibits. They include ethnographic collections, such as Silesian glass paintings and folk furniture. We will also find here examples of artistic craftsmanship, graphics, paintings and a rich collection of books.

Karkonosze Museum is divided into several branches. These are:

  • Karkonosze Museum in Jelenia Góra,
  • Museum in Szklarska Poreba,
  • Open-Air Museum of the Polish Army,
  • Bolków Castle Museum.

The main objective of the museum is to disseminate the accumulated knowledge and art, as well as its regular protection and conservation.

Karkonosze Museum in Jelenia Góra, since the revitalization carried out in 2009-2011, it has presented a modern permanent exhibition. Its biggest attraction is a traditional Karkonosze cottage, inscribed in the modern interior of the building. The museum is also proud of its art glass exhibition. Its views from many periods can be seen in the branches in Jelenia Góra and Szklarska Poręba. Regularly changing temporary exhibitions are most often associated with important personalities and artists of the region, so it is worth following what the museum has prepared for us.

Karkonosze Museum - information for tourists

The museum is open at different times depending on the season. In the winter season, ie from October to March, it is open from 9:00 to 16:00, and in the summer season (April to September) from 9:00 to 17:00. Admission to the museum costs PLN 20 for a normal ticket and PLN 15 for a reduced ticket.

It is worth knowing that on Wednesdays admission is free. In addition, the facility has different price proposals for groups of more than 10 people and for holders of the Large Family Card. There is also the possibility of visiting the museum with a guide and taking part in workshops, which may prove to be a particularly interesting option for children and teenagers.
