Saint's Mine Jana – underground tourist route

St. John's Mine in Krobica is a closed tin ore mine, where an underground tourist route has been open to tourists since 2012. The route operates within the existing Geopark.

It is one of the oldest mines in Poland and the mining heritage of Lower Silesia. This is a must-see attraction in the Sudetes and the pearl of the Jizera Mountains. The mine can now be explored in many different ways - during the day and at night, in weather and inclement weather. It is a place of surprising stories, dark legends and breathtaking tales from bygone eras.

What is the history of the underground tourist route St. Mine? John?

The history of mining here dates back to the 16th century, with the highest mining values recorded here at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The development of mining was stopped by the Thirty Years' War, after which further attempts at exploitation were made. The renewed great interest in the facilities dates back to the years of World War II, when the German authorities conducted research on deposits here, combined with large-scale mining works for uranium mineralization.

Geopark in Krobica – what is currently located on the site of the former mine?

In 2013, an educational and tourist trail "Geopark - in the traces of ancient ore mining" was created in the area, which includes, among others: underground tourist route St. Mine Jana, 12 above-ground positions, 3 viewpoints and an 8-kilometer above-ground path that leads along the remains of closed mining facilities. The geopark is open to tourists all year round.

The entire route into the tunnel corridor is 350 meters long and takes approximately 30 minutes. Squeezing through the narrow corridor, you can feel, at least for a moment, like miners clearing the mines several hundred years ago. Along the way, you can see numerous traces of tin mining, including wooden supports that are over 200 years old.

Underground tourist route St. Mine Jana leads through former workings with a length of 350 meters. There is an exhibition on the route that shows the history and technique of mining tin ore.

The underground tourist route of St. John's Mine delights with its austerity - narrow, colorful corridors and the darkness of the mine. It is located at the foot of Stok Izerski and in close proximity to popular resorts - Szklarska Poręba, Czerniawy and Świeradowa Zdrój.

Visiting the underground tourist route of the St. Mine. Jana, we can see very well-preserved remains of ore mining and numerous museum exhibits referring to the mining traditions of the Jizera Mountains and Foothills.

The mine is constantly working on expanding its tourist offer. Employees search new places to find new artifacts of mining heritage. The facility is intended for people over 6 years of age.

On site you can benefit from the knowledge and experience of guides. Thanks to them, you can learn all the colorful stories about this place. The guides make you feel the atmosphere of a medieval mine and the hardship of mining work on your own skin.

Night tour of the underground tourist route of the St. Mine. John

An interesting idea for visiting the former mine is a night trip along the underground tourist route of the St. Mine. John. This form of sightseeing also involves taking part in games involving searching for a hidden treasure and defeating the guard who protects the key to the exit. Night tours take place on selected Fridays and Saturdays.

The number of places available for this attraction is limited. Therefore, you should book a specific date in advance. Night tours are intended only for adults. It is worth remembering that throughout the year there are also special editions of night tours related to the celebration of "Halloween", "Friday the 13th" or "Night at the Museum". Participants over 10 years of age are then allowed to participate.
