Raven Rocks is a unique rock group with a vantage point from which there is an extraordinary panorama of the mountains. In addition, they are an excellent climbing point. Their name, according to the legend, comes from the ravens that used to meet on the local rocks and tell each other interesting stories from the Karkonosze Mountains. Every tourist will find something for themselves here!

Raven Rocks - location

Raven Rocks are the perfect place to commune with nature while visiting the city Karpacz. They are made of a granite-gneiss rock formation measuring up to 25 m high, located on the slopes of Krucza Kopa between Jana Matejki Street and Skalna Street, on the right bank of the Kamienna River. Raven Rocks consist of two rock towers. At the foot of the pillars there are two - partly natural - rock caves, each about 8 meters long. They were formed as a result of the exploitation of pegmatite nests, i.e. igneous rocks. At the top of Raven Rocks is located a vantage point, ideal for admiring the Kamienna Valley, the Jizera Mountains and the Karkonosze Mountains headed by Snow White.  

Treasures of Raven Rocks

This place has been explored since the Middle Ages due to the presence of concentrations of minerals and crystals, which were sought after by gold and precious stones seekers. The most valuable specimens found here, such as sapphires and tourmalines, have been placed in the Geological Museum in Wrocław. In addition, in the 18th century, at the foot of the rocks, Gottfried Exner exploited the mines of kaolin clay located here, which was transported to Berlin manufactories. It was used to produce porcelain that was so valuable and desirable at that time.

Climbing

Raven Rocks are not only an ideal vantage point, but also, during the summer season, this an ideal place for climbing enthusiasts. There are climbing routes of varying difficulty on the slope of the rocks. Everyone will have the opportunity to overcome a route chosen according to their abilities.

Hiking

The viewpoint can be accessed from the top, i.e. from Matejki Street, or from the bottom, i.e. from Skalna Street. The rocks can be easily reached from the city center on foot, and the hike should not take more than 20 minutes. It leads there green trail - follow the signs set from Skalna Street, the path turning right, past the bridge on Płomnica. black trail, leading through the Płomnica Valley to the Sowia Przełęcz.

If you are traveling by car, the entrance to the trail can be found at the national road no. 3, running towards the border crossing in Jakuszyce. The vehicle can be left in a small parking lot at the entrance to the black trail.

Raven Rocks is also a great tourist attraction for people who have mobility problems. This is because the approach under the rocks has a slight incline. It is almost a flat road, and there are no obstacles that are difficult to overcome.

Raven Rocks - information for tourists

When going to Raven Rocks, it is worth thinking about eating lunch and grilling food, because there is a picnic clearing right next to the rocks. There we will find a separate place for a bonfire, a shed and a place to prepare food.

Raven Rocks in Karpacz - attractions in the area

Near Krucze Skały, on the other side of the stream, we will find the one marked in red educational path. It leads to the former forest settlement of Budniki. It also passes at the foot of Raven Rocks black hiking trail Sowia Dolina, from Karpacz to the Sowia Pass. A trip to Raven Rocks can therefore be the beginning of a longer trip.

It is very easy to get to Raven Rocks, even for not very experienced tourists. There are no steep climbs, and it is only a 15-20 minute walk from the center of Karpacz. A trip to Raven Rocks is a suitable option even for families with small children.
