Cakes for a wedding - everything you need to know about a sweet treat

A wedding is a time of joyful celebration, crazy fun on the dance floor and... all-night feasting. Catering is therefore very important at a wedding reception. The wedding menu should be rich and tailored to the character as much as possible parties. It must include delicious sweet desserts. There are tons of types and flavors of cakes. Which of them are best for a wedding reception? How much cake will be enough for a wedding?

Which wedding cakes to choose?

Cakes are an important element of refreshments for guests, which has become a permanent part of the wedding menu. Young couples cannot imagine a wedding reception without a wide selection of sweets that can be consumed in the form of desserts after meals or snacks after crazy celebrations on the dance floor. In the past, future spouses together with their mothers or grandmothers prepared wedding cakes. Traditional cheesecakes, apple pies, biscuit rolls, sękacz or mold appeared on the tables. Currently, young couples more often opt for the option of ordering cakes in a professional confectionery, which offers an extremely wide selection of types and flavors of desserts. How to choose the right ones?

The first factor to consider when choosing wedding cakes is the time of year. Fresh, light cakes are perfect for spring and summer parties. Cheesecakes and other cold desserts, yeast cakes, all suggestions with fruit will work. Heavy desserts with creams, nuts or nuts and dried fruit are a perfect proposition for autumn and winter parties. At such weddings, there may be such cakes as apple pie with cinnamon, gingerbread with nuts and jam, snickers, sponge cake layered with cream, poppy seed cake, cheesecake with mascarpone, etc.

The second important issue is the nature of the party. The cakes should fit perfectly in wedding style. On  glamor style wedding you can't miss cute, small cupcakes with light cream and cookies decorated with almond flakes or glitter sprinkles, and at a Hawaiian party - light, exotic cakes with pineapple or coconut.

Last but not least is guest preferences. Of course, it is impossible to please all wedding guests. It's hard to please everyone's tastes. However, it is worth taking care of diversity dSRs - so that everyone can choose something for themselves. A well-designed set should include: classic cake (e.g. traditional cheesecake), something light with fruit (e.g. apple pie), dessert with cream (e.g. karpatka) and a few other suggestions according to recognition of future newlyweds.

How much wedding cake?

The amount of cake for a wedding depends on the number of invited guests. Usually there are about 3 pieces of cake per guest. For a 100-person wedding, you need to prepare at least 300 pieces of cake.

One sheet of dough weighs about 3 kg. One piece of dough is, depending on the type, from 50 to 150 g. Dividing the entire sheet into 100-gram pieces, we get 30 cubes. This means that for a 100-person wedding, at least 10 sheets of cake should be prepared - e.g. 2 sheets of 5 different cakes. However, these issues are best settled with the service of the wedding hall. Who else but them will know best.

Wedding cakes - how to serve them?

The traditional form of serving cakes at a wedding is to place decorative platters on wedding tables between other dishes. The downside of this solution is the significant limitation of space on the tables. Cake platters take up a lot of space, making it difficult for guests to comfortably and freely eat their meals. The tables get cramped, there is no space for savory meals, decorations and other elements of the wedding arrangement.

A lot a better option, which has been gaining popularity recently, is to prepare a separate sweet table. This is a table reserved for wedding cakes and other delicacies. You can also place a coffee service and fruit platters on it. Not on the table there should be no napkins, small plates, spoons or forks for cakes and special spatulas for serving desserts.

The table should be placed in a visible place. In the event of a large event on a spacious wedding hall or in the garden, wedding arrangements can be enriched with an elegant one wedding signpostwhich will show guests the way to the sweet corner. The table with cakes should perfectly match the style of the party. In order for the decor to be coherent and aesthetic, it should be decorated with the same decorations as in the other parts of the wedding hall.

A piece of cake for the road, or sweet thanks to the wedding guests

Carefully packed cakes can be an interesting form of gifts for guests as a thank you for coming to the wedding and celebrating together. The bride and groom should give sweet thanks in person - e.g. at the end of the event, when guests say goodbye to the newlyweds. It is worth decorating the cake box with an elegant card with the inscription "Thank you", the wedding date and the names of the newlyweds. Cake packaging, just like a sweet table, should match the character and style of the wedding party. Remember that when deciding on this form of thanks for wedding guests, we have to order more cake - e.g. additional two pieces for each couple/family.
