Wedding dress then and now

Fashion for wedding dresses has changed significantly. And although the style of many currently fashionable dresses refers to the last century, the white wedding dress has somewhat gone out of fashion. Why? What tradition from that time has survived to this day?

The appearance of the wedding dress has changed throughout history. Only a few dozen years ago, the issue of the wedding, reception and appearance of future spouses was approached very seriously and solemnly. The outfit had to be like that too. The dress almost always had a long tradition and was passed from generation to generation. The mother kept it in a special chest in order to give it to her daughter at the right moment. This is where the custom of inheriting the dress came from, which unfortunately in most cases is disappearing today. Why?

White wedding dress - where did this tradition come from?

The dress itself in the old days was not white. This color was assigned to the bride for good only with the advent of the 19th century. Once it was simply a festive regional costume - reserved for special occasions, e.g. going to church. The head was decorated with colorful flowers or ribbons - the tradition of a white veil, like a white dress, is therefore relatively young.

What are the colors of wedding dresses today?

White dresses were a real must-have until around 2010. At that time, no bride could imagine going down the aisle in a dress other than white. This fashion resulted not only from tradition, but also meant "purity of soul" and, according to many women, white perfectly emphasized the complexion.

After 2010, wedding dresses began to enter the wedding fashion market off-white colorivory colorbecause we are talking about him, he bought the favor of future brides and proved that the devil is in the detail. Ivory suits every skin tone and every type of beauty. Some ladies refer to this color as a shade of ivory, but this definition is only derived from the English equivalent, because "ivory" in English means ivory. This color, however, does not have much in common with the real color of ivory, but the generally accepted pattern is understandable for all ladies.

Currently, for several seasons, in wedding fashion salons, peach color is an absolute hit! Just a few years ago, no one would have thought that such a shade would be the main color of wedding dresses, but it is! Most often in modern dresses, some kind of grip is used. It is the layer of tulle that is in this shade and they can be freely manipulated. Because the dress consists of several layers, we can layer them, mix and freely configure them until the desired effect is obtained. In addition, the top layer of the dress, including laces and embroidery are made on a special net for ballroom dancing. It is an extremely durable and very flexible material that perfectly holds sewing. One thing is certain – a peach-colored wedding dress looks perfect, especially with a very fair complexion. A layer in this shade beautifully opalescent and illuminates the skin.

Second-hand wedding dress - is it worth it?

Joanna Hoc-Kopiej, a wedding expert at Dwór Korona Karkonoszy, notes: “In modern times, the aspect of the wedding dress itself is approached more and more practically and economically. Brides often buy dresses that are not so richly decorated, with a view to re-use or even second-hand. Internet forums are full of auctions where you can buy or sell a dress at a bargain price. Often girls also decide on the option of "one-time purchases" at the bazaar. These are materials and accessories not as high quality as from salons. However, their job is to look good from a distance, and that's practically just for one day in your life!” – concludes the expert's statement. Especially the dress for a civil wedding often deviates from strict patterns. So if you are looking for savings and do not want to spend a lot on a wedding dress - combine!

The times when buying a used wedding dress or one made of cheaper materials was something embarrassing are long gone - we can save up to several thousand this way! For this amount, we can go on a honeymoon to the warm Canary Islands or to romantic Venice :) So if we care more about shared moments than branded clothes - it's worth considering this option!

Seamstress - will measure, sew, fit!

If the services of wedding dress salons seem exorbitantly expensive to you, it is worth thinking about sewing a dress with an independent seamstress. The best friend, i.e. the one we can trust. All you need to do is buy the material, lace and any elements of decorations and carefully analyze the dress with the tailor. She will take the measure and get to work. Currently, salons usually do not buy ready-made dresses, but the dressmaker from the salon sews it from scratch, following the model of the chosen one. The only advantage of this situation is that we can measure many models and check which one we feel and look best in!

If you buy a dress in a salon, the whole procedure is divided into several steps. Already while watching, you have the right to measure a few models that you will like the most. If you choose, the measure is removed. The wedding dress is sewn for several months, after which the first fitting takes place. After that, changes are made. The second fitting is basically the final one and takes place about a week before the planned ceremony. At this point, you pick up the dress and hide it from your future husband until the wedding!

Is the wedding dress the most important element of the wedding?

Although for many women the wedding dress is still extremely important and is the apple of the eye of the whole ceremony, more and more often the atmosphere of the place and additional attractions - such as burning hams, chocolate fountains, etc. are by the wedding guests and the young themselves throughout their lives! Bride and groom are increasingly eager to organize parties that reflect their interests. For example, in the steam punk style, for Harley riders, and both the outfit and the room decor must show it. Currently, there is a trend to organize a wedding for yourself, and not at all costs to please your family or loved ones. Wedding parties are getting more and more crazy, but not necessarily in accordance with the old Polish principle of "pay yourself and stand up".
