Boleslawiec is a city in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, located on the Bóbr River, in the vicinity of Bory Dolnośląskie. From the beginning of its existence, the city was an important trading hubas it lies between Germany and the Czech Republic. Gold was also mined there. In Bolesławiec, people were also dealt with beer production, dyeing, cloth-making, milling and pottery. The products we call today Bolesławiec potterybegan to be produced at the beginning of the 14th century. In the 15th century, the city was surrounded by defensive walls to protect it from the invasions of the Hussites.
As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that it was in Bolesławiec that one of the first water and sewage systems in Europe was built. This was already in 1531! Bolesławiec was then one of the largest Silesian cities.
The 17th and 18th centuries are already the period of specialization of Bolesławiec - pottery and ceramics became the most important branch of the local industry. In the 19th century, not only household ceramics, but also ceramic pipes were produced in Bolesławiec. In 1897, a specialized Ceramic School was even established.
World War II brought great destruction, more than half of the city was in ruins. But production of Bolesławiec pottery has survived and still brings pride to the city - the centuries-old tradition obliges!

It was built in the fifteenth century, in the eighteenth century it was rebuilt, giving it a baroque appearance. It consists of two interconnected buildings, covered with mansard roofs. Adjacent to the building is an octagonal tower topped with a cupola with a lantern. The center is also worth seeing courthouse – originally a gymnasium, a symmetrical building with a six-storey tower built in the 19th century.
Worth watching as well railway viaduct from the nineteenth century, built on the occasion of the launch of the railway line. It was designed in the shape of a Roman aqueduct. The viaduct consists of 35 arches, of which as many as seven are located directly on the river.
